It's always wonderful to see how much your child has grown since their last check-up. This additional preventative J2 examination is not reimbursed by all health insurance providers. This examination is intended to provide teenagers with an opportunity for a health check-up even after the J1.
During the examination, the doctor will take measurements of height, weight, and assess the immunization status, blood pressure and urine. Skin problems and eating disorders such as anorexia or obesity will also be addressed. The focus of the J2 examination includes recognizing or treating puberty disorders, postural problems, goiter formation, and diabetes prevention. Doctors understand that some topics may be difficult for adolescents to discuss with their parents present. Therefore, they often choose to speak with the adolescent alone at the start of the appointment and then invite the parent to join.
The J2 examination provides a safe space for young adults to discuss sensitive topics. Questions about gender idendity, sexuality and contraception, drug abuse and smoking, and problems with family and social environments can be discussed and clarified during this examination. Overall, the J2 examination aims to provide young adults with the tools and support they need to thrive both physically and mentally.
This marks the final check-up during childhood, but we encourage you and your child to continue prioritizing their health and well-being. Take care, and we extend our best wishes to you both!
