The U6 happens between the 10th and 12th month of a child's life. This visit is an important time to check in on your child's development and make sure they are meeting important milestones. Your doctor will be able to provide you with valuable information and advice to support your child's growth and development. Don't hesitate to ask questions and raise any concerns you may have during this important visit.
One of the key areas of focus during the U6 visit is your child's physical development. The doctor will assess your child's mobility and physical movements, looking for signs of any delays or abnormalities. They will also conduct an eye test to check for any vision impairments that could affect your child's development.
Another important area of focus during the U6 visit is your child's fine motor skills. At this age, your baby may be trying to use the pincer grip with their thumb and index finger, to put objects in a box and take them out again. In terms of gross motor skills, your child might try to crawl, sit securely and independently, and pull themselves up on chairs and furniture. Between 12 - 15 months, most infants try their first free steps.
The U6 visit is also an important time to check on your child's language development. By this age, your child may be saying their first words, such as "mom" and "dad". The doctor will talk about language, especially that you should speak your mother tongue with your baby at home.
Social interaction is also an important area of development to monitor during the U6 visit. Your child may be starting to show signs of stranger anxiety at this age, and they may enjoy playing games like peek-a-boo. They might be able to follow simple commands, such as "come here" or "give me".
The Doc will ask you if you have noticed anything unusual and answer all your questions.
Vitamin D will be recommended to prevent rickets, a bone disease
You will receive detailed information about recommended vaccinations and about what is important for your baby’s healthy development.
You will also receive more advice on feeding and nutrition, as well as preventing accidents.
